in Chumash Study!
In recent years, several innovative programs have been developed for the study of Chumash in Primary School.
Now, Bonayich Educational Services, Ltd., a world-reknowned pioneer in curriculum development for Jewish Studies, proposes a quantum leap forward in Chumash study with its remarkable, new “Torah Sheli” curriculum.
“Torah Sheli” was developed in the last several years with the generous funding of the Ministry for Diaspora Affairs of the State of Israel and UnitEd Jewish Education for Grades 1-4 in Jewish schools in French-speaking schools and has proven to be a significant innovation in Chumash learning.
Now, Bonayich proposes to produce both easy Hebrew and English editions of “Torah Sheli” for schools around the world.
What makes "Torah Sheli" so special?
In addition to the usual skills of שרשים, prefix-suffix identification and vocabulary, “Torah Sheli” offers many methodological innovations, including:
Careful and consistent separation between פשוטו של מקרא and מדרשו של מקרא.
Students are guided in inquisitive comprehension of the Torah text and clarification of what is actually in the text, and what is not. This develops the critical independent reading capability on which all textual study depends.
Regular use of טעמי המקרא.
Students learn basic טעמי המקרא for use in proper accenting of words, and for punctuation of פסוקים. In addition, the Torah text is chanted, not read, according to the טעמים to create an exciting classroom experience. Audio materials are provided to enable individual, chavruta and classroom learning!
Introduction to the world and function of פרשני המקרא, including Rashi, Rashbam, Ibn Ezra and Ramban.
The “Torah Sheli” curriculum includes a special department for study of the biographies and selected comments of these מפרשים, and trains students to identify what each מפרש is adding to פשוטו של מקרא.
Introduction to the world and purposes of מדרשי אגדה as a separate discipline from פשוטו של מקרא.
Students receive guidance in how to learn מדרשי אגדה and derive their true benefit for life and learning!
“Torah Sheli” materials include student workbooks in printed or digital format, Teacher Guides, website for review of text and learning through play, audio recordings, and much, much more,
all in a high-graphic setting that students simply adore!
